Welcome to Year 1
This promises to be a very exciting, action-packed and enjoyable year for the children. To support your child in their transition from Early Years to Key Stage One, we like to provide a stimulating environment where children are encouraged to explore through practical activities, whilst also becoming more independent.
During the Autumn term we will be covering the topic ‘Get Out Of My Swamp!’ Our primary focus during the first half term will be traditional tales. During the second half term our focus will turn to castles with a medieval theme. The children will have the opportunity to visit Tamworth Castle and enjoy hosting a Banquet fit for Shrek!
As Christmas approaches, the Year One children will begin to dedicate their hard work and energy to putting on an amazing Nativity for both the school and parents to watch. We hope to see as many of you there as possible to show your support .
Once into the new year, we will launch our new topic ‘A Grand Day Out’ in which the children will explore outer space and the career of an astronaut. The children will visit The Space Centre in Leicester to look at a real rocket and interact with all the exhibits. We look forward to an out of this world experience!
During the second half term, our attention will turn to hosting our very own Art Exhibition based on the work of Lowry. We hope that many of you will be able to come and celebrate the art work produced by the children.
Finally in the Summer term our topic will change to ‘Lost and Found’. In this topic we will be looking closely at animals, their habitats and how to care for them. Once again we will take the children on a trip to Hatton Adventure World in order to consolidate what they have learnt.
By being in school every day and on time, makes a huge difference; especially as Phonics Screening draws nearer in the Summer Term! We would appreciate your support in making every lesson count.
Many thanks, Team Year 1
